FROM THE EAST
Writing this month’s message is
certainly not an easy one, being
within a day of losing one of
our region’s most iconic
structures. We’ve all traveled
over the Francis Scott Key
Bridge to head to family, work,
and fraternal activities, and
likely marveled at its size and
importance each time. It was
the backdrop for so many
pictures of sailors and
shore-goers alike, and I always
looked for it while flying home
into BWI. Its absence will be
felt for quite some time, and we
certainly have in our hearts
those who weren’t able to escape
its tragic collapse.
March was another active
month of meetings, business, and
fun. We launched ticket sales
for our Bull and Shrimp roast
fundraiser (buy your tickets at
https://tinyurl.com/bullshrimp24
or call Brother Billy Thompson at
410.459.4714), and we have
Brothers visiting area Lodges to
sell tables. We had an
entertaining gathering with our
special ladies for a springtime
feast, sporting different shades
of green and a filling corned
beef dinner. We also called out
bingo numbers for the residents
and guests at the Maryland
Masonic Home. Finally, we did
our first Lodge clean-up day for
the year to polish up our
furniture and tidy the building
overall.
Shifting into April, we
will start the month on 1 April
with a special presentation by
the Sojourners, who will present
their “building the flag”
ceremony for us – this draws
Brothers from across the state
to participate in this unique
event. On 15 April, we’ll have
an educational presentation and
discuss final arrangements for
our Bull and Shrimp Roast.
Don’t forget, the solar eclipse
is on 8 April, a special
celestial event for our
astronomically inclined
Brothers!
Starting in April, #187
will begin hosting a fraternal
gathering every Tuesday at 7am
at the Aberdeen Diner on Rt 40:
join us for a great meal and
fellowship before you start your
day! And be sure to mark your
calendar for the APG Masonic
Club’s next Masons Night at
Ripken Stadium on 14 June –
another fun night of baseball
and fireworks with your
brothers, families, and
friends. Ticket sales
information will be released
soon, including information on
ordering Aberdeen Lodge baseball
jerseys.
Speaking of Lodge wear, be
sure to reach out to Br Carlos
Corredor if you are interested
in getting your hands on one of
our new Lodge polos for $50 –
these are stitched by Brother
Bruce Mulligan with our new
Lodge logo and your name. We
also have lapel pins for those
wanting one.
I look forward to seeing
you around Lodge in April,
Brothers!
Sincerely and fraternally,
Michael
J. Bowen,
PM
